1. Choose a strong password:
 According to US cyber security division, 70% of cyber-attacks can be prevented by using safe and strong login credentials.

Make sure that your passwords are strong and unique. Do not include your date of birth or your name and initials in your password. Avoid using obvious information which a third party can easily guess.
The best way to create a new password is by using an 8-10 character mix of digits, alphabets and special symbols.

2. Change your password frequently and never reuse passwords:
One must change his or her password at least once a fortnight, reusing and mixing up you Google and Linked-In password for Facebook isn’t a very smart idea either.

3. Never click on Unknown links:
Phishing attacks are one of the most common ways innocent users get hacked. That email from your favorite retailer may look legitimate, but once you click on one of its links, you could redirect you to a hacker’s infected web page like a fly alighting on a spider’s web.

4. Don’t post everything on social media:
Every move of yours is under the vigil, so be aware and never  share confidential information on social media

5.Use an updated and genuine antivirus:
Using a strong antivirus will keep a check on all the unwanted stuff happening with your data. Moreover using a firewall will also keep a check on the phishing attacks.
6. Update your OS:
It doesn’t matter if you are using Windows or IOS or Linux. Keep your PC on auto update. Updates remove the loopholes and bugs, thus preventing cyber-attacks and ensuring smooth working.

7. Beware of free and open WIFI:
Free wifi may sound tempting but it opens the gate for millions of cyber criminals. Check the security of the wifi and never log into a sensitive site using free wifi.

8. Check for SSL encryption:
Check for the SSL encryption in URLs. If a site isn’t safe, most of the web advanced web browsers would notify you and ask for your consent before moving further.

9. Use Incognito/Private mode:
Prevention is better than cure, always log in using Incognito or private window. This is a life hack while using public computers.

10. Always request an OTP:
While doing online transactions always request for an OTP. This would ensure that nobody other than you can get access to your bank account. Leading banks in India also give SMS services for online transactions.
